Welcome to the Luis Rojas Jazz Site

This website is dedicated to keeping the jazz tradition alive. The emphasis is on jazz performance and education and in particular, jazz guitar.  I’ve been thinking about writing a jazz guitar blog for years and decided to finally do it if for no other reason than for my own personal enjoyment. Hopefully, this blog will help some of you that are interested in playing jazz guitar and would like some structured guidance. I never got any of that when I started and I wish I had.

Does the world need yet another guitar blog? Probably not, there are a lot of good guitar instruction web sites out there now compared to when I first started playing. However, I hope to be able to provide some of you with some tips and advice that you may find useful. Along the way, I will share resources such as books, videos, and software tools that have greatly helped me along the way.

The most important thing to remember is that playing guitar, and jazz in particular, is a lifelong journey. You never really arrive at your ultimate destination but there are tremendous rewards along the way. There are times when you may feel that your playing has reached a plateau and you are not progressing as fast as you would like but remember to take your time and enjoy yourself.

“Jazz washes away the dust of every day life.”
      Art Blakey

“Jazz is a mental attitude rather than a style. It uses a certain process of the mind expressed spontaneously through some musical instrument. I’m concerned with retaining that process.”
      Bill Evans

“The whole thing of being in music is not to control it but to be swept away by it. If you’re swept away by it you can’t wait to do it again and the same magical moments always come.”
      Bobby Hutcherson
